Or is it July?
So how cold was it where you are? Did you need extra blankets? Did you have to light a fire? Break out your mittens yet?
It seems like it was just about a week ago I was asking similar questions.
Daytime highs are expected to moderate a bit as we go through the final days of January. But overnight lows could still be rather chilly. In fact, in Southland, temperatures are expected to dip into the single digits again Sunday night into Monday.
It looks like the North Island will be dry for the rest of January. Although February could start off pretty wet. A front is expected to make its way across the South Island on Tuesday, bringing in another round of wet weather. That front will then move onto the North Island on Wednesday, getting the new month off to a wet start.
Temperatures should be on a pretty consistent warming trend as we wrap up January.

This weather is ridiculous and has me seriously concerned for what is in stall for us this winter! First an abnormal bout of snow graced the entire country with it majestic wonder last winter… (landing and settling thick in the Motueka Valley, the first time in 37 years…) and now rain (and bitterly cold gusty winds almost throughout the whole of summer!) Nelson… particularly the Tasman region and western rangers received beautiful hot summer days last year… with not a drop of rain… yet this year? not the same. Lastnight the temp in the Motueka Valley got down to 4’c at 2am! I have no idea what it was 2 hrs later… but it was most definatly 5 degrees different from what met service was saying it was (9’c in Nelson!).

With a temperature of 4c @ 6.30 am on Tue 24th @ Wayby you do ask yourself what time of year it is. However during the day with temperatures getting into the 20s the feeling of early Autum is in the air. Mornings are noticeably starting to close in with sunrise now over the Dome @ 6.45 am.
I wonder if any of the team have any sign of a pattern to suggest what the weather could be for the winter. The feeling in the “Waters” up here is that it might be rather a testing time. Appreciate your thoughts.
Cheers Steve

Just substitute the A in Jan for U as in Jun,its nowhere in Auckland is cold as that(june) feels like november weather now,its each cold change mean SW wind and the pine needles and the persistant cloud it often brings.

We all needed extra blankets last night and the kids are freezing this morning.
Am I right in thinking that we’ve had below average temperatures as a whole this month?
