Yet again temperatures have hit the 30s in many regions and Hawkes Bay has seen the temps in the high 30s today( just nudging 100F in the old scale).The heat began early this morning with both Napier and Hastings recording 35 degrees by 11am.
That cooler change following the front did make its way north over the South Island today and is due to arrive in Nelson and Marlborough over the next few hours.
Tomorrow the cooler change will continue its trek north with temperatures coming down to the low 20s out east.
So today and Hastings and Napier recorded the official high of 37 degrees with Gisborne on 35 and Kaikoura on 34.The low was 16 in Gore.

Is that rare for Kaikoura to get that warm?
I don’t think I’ve seen Kaikoura get into the 30’s very often.

It can do so if the NW/W overcomes any inshore airflow. It also holds at least one record high N temperature for winter months
