The calm after the rush – Weather risks for Boxing Day

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It will be a good day to get some serious shopping in, if that’s what you are looking to do – because most of the country is looking calm and settled – not much in the way of serious risks at all!

Northwesterlies will start to get up a little strength this afternoon about the interior of the South Island, but overall it shouldn’t be anything to worry about.

Winds about coastal Fiordland and Cape Providence may pick up towards evening, with the risk of gales in the southwestern corner of the island.
This shouldn’t affect too many people, but holidaymakers in that part of the country should be aware of the change late on in the day.
