The Big Picture – Showers moving in before the weekend

> From the WeatherWatch archives

On Friday we have high pressure over most of the country to start, which means mainly settled and clear weather.

Most regions see areas of increasing cloud – but mainly in the west, where areas of rain move into the West Coast of the South Island from afternoon.
A front moves in, and high pressure slips away out east, leading to some rain spreading into eastern parts of the South Island during the evening – but this rain will be fairly scattered.

The North Island has areas of both cloud and sun, as a ridge hangs on for much of the day.
The East Coast has the best weather, with mainly sunny skies for much of the day.
Only Taranaki and perhaps Kapiti may see a few spots of rain later in the evening.
