Temps plummet to 3 degs in Auckland, light frosts further south (Maps x 5)

3am — We may be just a couple of weeks away from December but right now you might feel like it’s winter, after a spring southerly moves through and an anticyclone sets in.  Auckland has temperatures down to 3 degrees, with light frosts developing through some inland areas of the North Island.

While many vineyards should remain above frost level – at least at vine heights – some areas will be far too close for comfort, especially around Marlborough.

Temperatures may drop another 1 to 1.5 degrees before sunrise for some areas.  Winds are going to build in the South Island this morning, pushing temperatures up slowly.
