A subtropical northeasterly airflow keeps overnight lows away from 0 degrees tonight. The last of a ridge clinging on to the North Island means parts of the Central North Island, Hawkes Bay and Gisborne may still get down to about 3 degrees by dawn on Friday. The warmest overnight lows once again go to Northland with 13 degrees expected.
Warmer than average for the whole of New Zealand tomorrow, especially for the South Island. Temperatures will likely peak around 16 to 17 degrees for inland parts of Canterbury, Manawatu and Northland. The coldest day time highs will be about Southland / Central Otago and along the east coast of the North Island getting to 13 to 14 degrees.
