Winter is here with cold southwesterlies now covering New Zealand, no more warm days like we experienced in early / mid June likely till spring rolls around. The West Coast of the South Island does offer up some stunning sunny weather today though, not overly warm but still nice altogether. The warmest temperatures will likely be about Northland in the mid teens, the coldest about Central Otago on 6 degrees.
Cold temperatures continue through the night as can be seen in the map below with most regions below average for the time of year. Coastal cloud and showers keeps coastal Otago up through to Banks Peninsula average for the time of year however.
