A weak and brief ridge of high pressure brings cold overnight lows tonight to many parts of New Zealand as can be seen in the map below going by the dark blue coloured areas. Temperatures getting down to 0 to -2 degrees for the inner South Island, similar overnight lows for the Central North Island. Other overnight low temperatures can be seen in the numerical figures below.
A northwesterly airflow brings warmer than average temperatures to eastern parts of the country tomorrow, this is especially true for the eastern South Island. High’s reaching 16 to 17 degrees for Canterbury northwards in the east and also about Auckland / Northland.
