A warm north to northwesterly airflow lies over New Zealand today, temperatures in the mid to late teens for most regions. Central Otago sticks to 12 or 13 degrees however.
The North Island experiences some ridging overnight tonight, these more settled conditions means average to slightly below average overnight lows. Some cloud and showers bring warmer than average overnight lows for Taranaki and Kapiti / Wellington. The South Island as can be seen below has warmer than average overnight lows for most, this will be welcome considering the frosty conditions Canterbury has had for example lately.
A cold front later on Wednesday for the South Island and pushing over the North Island on Thursday brings a cool down.
