Temperatures overnight tonight will drop to below freezing for many South Island areas, especially inland. Some coastal parts like Southland and parts of the West Coast may see frosts kept at bay due to some cloud cover. Plenty of cloud cover sees temperatures not getting to cold for the North Island although the Wellington region will get a bit chilly due to clear skies, there is even the risk of a frost for inland parts of the region.
Average to warmer than average day time highs for most of New Zealand on Tuesday due to a ridge of high pressure / settled conditions. Western parts of the country experience the warmest temperatures. Kaitaia tops the lot hitting 18 degrees meanwhile Alexandra in Central Otago is the coldest only hitting 7 degrees, expect a mainly sunny day though.
