Temp Map: Hot spots as cold front heads north

Updated 4:30pm — A classic spring front is marching northwards today with temperatures roaring up ahead of the front and dropping down fast behind it.

The cold front is currently moving through Canterbury – temperatures have tumbled by as much as 14 degrees as this front moves northwards.  

To give you an idea as to where exactly the cold change is at 4:30pm, check out the current temperatures along the east coast of New Zealand:
Dunedin: 12 degrees
Ashburton: 11 degrees
Christchurch: 17 degrees
Kaikoura: 30 degrees
Hastings: 30 degrees

And it’s not just the South Island and eastern North Island receiving heat.  Parts of Auckland have reached 26 degrees today officially, the Nov record (in Nov 2013) was 26.8.
