After so many storms this month the country finally gets a breather this weekend as a high spreads over most of the country bringing mainly settled, sunny, weather.
A light south easterly flow means plenty of sun in northern, western and inland regions while a few clouds may brush the North Island’s east coast. And if you’re looking for some warmth then you won’t find it tonight.
Temperatures are likely to plummet tonight bringing a return to widespread frosts after a number of frost-free weeks.
Frosts will reach as north as Waikato and maybe even the fringes of Auckland while temperatures in places like Marlborough, inland Canterbury, Central Otago and even Waikato will drop well below zero.
Light south easterly flows tend to bring heavy frosts to Waikato.
The frosty weather will be short lived though – another low is expected to move across New Zealand next week bringing another week of wind, rain and showers to the country.
