Sunday’s national forecast – Welcome to October!

> From the WeatherWatch archives

It’s the first day of October and in true ‘mid-spring’ style we have a low crossing the North Island bringing rain and a windier air flow from out of the Southern Ocean area.

North Island:
Dry to begin with, especially in the east. Clouds thicken and morning rain develops long the western coastline, with heavy falls possible from Northland to Taranaki. Rain eases to showers later but some may be heavy at night. Winds from the west to north west with an evening or overnight south to south west change.
Highs: 11 to 18

South Island:
Mainly dry but quite cloudy. Rain most likely around Nelson and Marlborough. A few showers possible elsewhere. Fairly light winds, drifting in from the south in some coastal areas.
Highs: 13 or 14
