Upper North Island

For Northland, Auckland and Waikato expect cloudy  periods with light winds tending southwesterly. There may be a brief shower at times, mainly about southern Waikato otherwise expect a mostly dry day. Rain develops about Bay Of Plenty this morning with easterly winds and continues for much of the day then easing overnight.

Lower North Island

Sunny with some cloud in the west, light winds. There may be a shower or two in the evening. Easterly winds about the east coast with rain, possibly heavy about the ranges. For the Central North Island expect cloudy skies, the odd shower spreads from the east at times from late morning. Wellington can expect cloudy skies and northeasterly winds, there may be the odd shower at times otherwise mainly dry. Showers more likely about Wellington evening onwards.

Upper South Island

Cloudy about Nelson with the chance of a shower and northeasterly winds, showers more likely from late afternoon. Rain on the West Coast north of Greymouth eases to showers in the afternoon, northerly breezes. Cloudy about Marlborough with northeasterlies, showers move in during the evening.

Lower South Island

Rain on the West Coast south of Greymouth becoming patchy in the morning, light northerlies. Mainly cloudy skies for Canterbury with breezy northeasterlies, the odd drizzle patch at times north of Banks Peninsula. There may be a period of more widespread showers in the evening for a time. North to northeasterly breezes with mostly cloudy skies for Otago and Southland, conditions mainly dry.
