A low pressure system affects much of New Zealand today, in particular the upper South Island then western parts of the North Island this morning then eastern areas in the afternoon in the form of rain. The far south and West Coast of the South Island look like the main candidates to catch some sunshine.

Northland, Auckland & Waikato
Morning rain which may be heavy about and south of Auckland, winds from the northeast. A change to southwesterlies late morning or around midday sees rain easing to the odd shower, a few sunny spells may even break through.

Central North Island, Bay Of Plenty
Rain, heavy in the afternoon then easing by evening. Northeasterly breezes tend southeast later.
Highs: 10-15

Eastern North Island
Cloudy with northeasterlies, periods of rain develop around midday.
Highs: 14-15

Western North Island
Morning rain possibly heavy about northern Taranaki then easing to showers around midday with easterly winds. Showers clear in the evening.
Highs: 14-15

Marlborough, Nelson & Wellington
Morning rain possibly heavy about the Sounds eases to drizzle or the odd shower around midday, northeasterlies tend southerly by late afternoon.
Highs: 13-14

Canterbury
Cloudy with the odd shower or drizzle patch, light southwesterlies. Areas of precipitation clearing in the evening.
Highs: 12-13

West Coast
Some early rain then sunny spells increasing, light winds.
High: 16

Southland & Otago
Chance of an early shower then mostly sunny with light winds, a few clouds about.
Highs: 9-11
