Upper North Island

Southwesterly breezes with sunny areas and some cloud, the odd brief shower possible at times mainly in the west however mostly dry. In Gisborne expect a few sunny areas at first with southwesterlies, by midday winds tend more southerly with showers which then clear at night.
HIGHS: 16-17 today for most areas, 15 in Gisborne.

Lower North Island

Sunny areas and some cloud with southwesterly breezes, a few brief showers possible for the west in the afternoon. Winds tending more south to southeasterly about Wellington through to Hawkes Bay, morning rain eases to showers which clear late afternoon or evening.
HIGHS: Mid teen temperatures for most, 13 to 14 about Wellington through to Hawkes Bay.

Upper South Island

Light winds about Nelson through to Canterbury today dying off from the southwest in the morning, mostly sunny weather with some cloud at times after a cold start. There may be a few brief morning showers about the Marlborough coastline however they will quickly clear with southerlies dying out. West to southwest breezes on the West Coast with sunny areas and some cloud. At night a southwest change moves into Canterbury bringing some cloud and a few further showers with snow flurries to 500m, any snow accumulations will be quite limited or non existent as precipitation amounts are not high, in the order of 1cm so it may not be enough to settle.
HIGHS: Mid teen temperatures about Nelson through to Canterbury and on the West Coast.

Lower South Island

Mostly sunny in Otago with light winds after a cold start, some high cloud from afternoon then later in the evening a southwest change brings some cloud and a few showers with a few snow flurries to 500m. Westerlies freshen about Southland and about the western ranges during the day with increasing cloud, a southwest change in the evening brings a few showers and snow flurries to 500m which clear at night.
HIGHS: 15-16 degrees about Otago, 13-14 in Southland today. Cool on the western ranges with 12-13 degrees expected.
