A westerly airflow lies over New Zealand today, a front draped across the upper North Island brings areas of rain or showers. Another front moves onto the lower South Island from afternoon.
Upper North Island
Mostly cloudy, areas of rain or showers from Auckland down through to about Lake Taupo and across to the Bay Of Plenty. Northland is looking mainly dry although there may be a shower in the west and southern parts of the region.
Lower North Island
The east coast of the North Island is mainly dry with some high cloud, warm afternoon temperatures in the low to mid 20’s. Skies about the Wairarapa, Wellington and about the lower western North Island are mostly sunny.
Upper South Island
Nelson and Marlborough have mainly sunny weather with west to northwesterly winds. Canterbury is mainly sunny also, perhaps a touch of high cloud at times, winds from the northwest inland and east to northeast along the coast.
Lower South Island and West Coast
Southland and Otago see early showers clear then in the afternoon a southwest change moves in bringing a band of rain. Showers for the West Coast of the South Island, rain moves into Fiordland during the afternoon with heavy falls then pushing northwards overnight, this band of rain / front will weaken as it moves northwards.
