Upper North Island

Showers, sometimes heavy with a risk of thunder especially in the west. West to northwesterly winds.

Lower North Island

Showers in the west, sometimes heavy with a risk of thunder. Mainly dry on the east coast from Gisborne through to the Wairarapa with northwesterlies.

Upper South Island

Rain about Nelson and Buller for much of the day, heavy in the morning. Rain for Marlborough eases in the morning becoming spotty. Canterbury sees morning rain clear north of Banks Peninsula then remaining dry for the rest of the day. Rain sinks south of Banks Peninsula in the afternoon becoming restricted to South Canterbury with south to southwesterly winds.

Lower South Island

Rain for eastern Otago for much of the day with easterly winds, rain may be heavy at times. Mostly cloudy elsewhere about Otago and Southland with rain at times, plenty of dry spells also. Fiordland is mainly dry with southeasterlies.
