Upper North Island

Cloudy areas with westerly winds, a bit breezy at times. Chance of the odd shower in the west otherwise mainly dry.

Lower North Island

Cloudy areas in the west with the chance of a shower, mainly later in the day. Along the east coast expect sunny areas and high cloud, winds build from the northwest especially after midday becoming strong. About Wellington expect mostly cloudy skies, northwesterly winds build rising to gale later in the day.

Upper South Island

Along the West Coast expect mostly cloudy skies, showers Westport southwards turn to rain in the evening then spread northwards. About Nelson and along the east coast expect sunny areas and increasing high cloud, northwesterly winds build becoming strong after midday, gusting to gale in the evening especially about Canterbury and Marlborough. Chance of a shower later in the evening or overnight about Canterbury.

Lower South Island

Cloudy in the west with rain, gusty to strong northwesterly winds. Thick high cloud in the east with strong northwesterly winds, rising to gale at times after midday. Showers spread through late afternoon or evening through Southland and Otago on a strong WSW change, winds gale about coastal areas.
