Subway suffers cucumber shortage – weather to blame

> From the WeatherWatch archives

If you are wanting extra cucumber on your Subway sandwich you may be out of luck.

The food chain is suffering a shortage of cucumber and notices have been put up on the doors of some stores.

Subway marketing manager David Herrick says there is a seasonal shortage of cucumbers due to the cold weather. He says the company tried to source them from Australia, but growing fields in Australia were hit by serious flooding a couple of months ago.

Six inch subs will now get two slices of cucumber instead of three and foot longs will get four slices instead of six.

I would think the minimal extra cost could be absorbed by Subway. Are they that hard up?
Perhaps we should supply our own sauces for a discount?
In this day and age they can even purchase canned cucs which while not so flavoursome ain’t too bad.
