We are continuing to see an increasing number of reports of heavier falls and strengthening winds.
Most of the reports are coming from about Northland, Auckland and The Coromandel Peninsula. Some reports have also come in from Taranaki, Manawatu-Waganui, and northern Waikato.

Wow the winds are here! Power is out, some rain but not heavy. Winds are shaking the house (lockwood) so it feels like an earthquake. Roof is creaking madly. Peering out the windows I can’t see any damage and the sea doesn’t look particularly ominous, but daybreak approaches so will reassess then. Wild!

Ok, here in Coatesville, Auckland we just got a very strong gust that came from almost nowhere. It blew a few doors shut around the house and then died away within seconds.
Now, 10mins later the winds are picking up, and more frequent howling gusts!
Rain stopped some time ago.

The rain here has very slowly been increasing, from spittle at 6pm tp drizzle at 9pm to moderate showers just now (1:30am)
Wind has been non-existant till very recently, we now have a very light breeze. The longer it takes to ramp up the more concerned I get as a gradual change would indicate a softer pressure gradient, but the slight change experienced indicates that this system will be very intense.
In the last 30 minutes the wind has swung round from the south to the northeast as expected so I expect that the storm is not far from landfall futher up the coast.
