Some rain falls in Northland

> From the WeatherWatch archives

On the same day water restrictions were imposed in the Far North the clouds have formed and rain has started to fall – and in some areas it’s been a healthy amount although it is patchy.

WeatherWatch.co.nz reader, Rob, says his property in the Far North just north of Kaitaia has recorded 45mms since 1pm.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says the northern rain radar showed some decent shower activity over much of central Northland early this evening with a secondary band of patchier rain moving in.

Both rain bands only contain about 60 minutes of rain, although some areas may see longer falls, others – especially in the east, should see less.

The rain will not be enough to soak to far into the ground for a number of parched farms however should give grass growth a short term boost.

Unfortunately the next 10 days look mostly dry at this stage.

err…and you’ll notice the missing decimal point. 3.9 cm of course.

39 cm just south of Whangarei. It started falling at around 5:00ish. Some good rolls of thunder too.
