Soaking eases but hasn’t disappeared

Today the rain that soaked much of the country is still falling in some central, southern and eastern areas but not quite to the degree that it was earlier.

Winds and rain hammered much of the country this morning and early this afternoon as the main rain band crossed our shores.

Rainfall totals varied and there was some flooding as a result but other areas didn’t quite get the deluge expected.

Most of the main centres received the rain and in some cases, driving was difficult in the wet conditions.

A number of weather warnings had been issued by the MetService and a few still remain in place this eveing and for down south tomorrow.

Tonight, the south should see most of the rain and it looks likely to hang around for much of tomorrow although Nelson and Marlborough should be relatively dry.

Tomorrow, a few showers may dot northern and western areas of the North Island with winds coming in from the west. Mostly sunny and warm conditions should dominate proceedings out east.
