A number of drivers have been caught out by snowy conditions in the South Island.
Police say a tow truck was used to pull free a car-load of tourists on State Highway Six near Cromwell about 3 this morning.
That road has since been closed between Cromwell and Queenstown.
More motorists have been caught out by snow on Arthur’s Pass.
The Lindis Pass is closed, as the Haast Pass, State Highway 80 to Mount Cook and several roads around Alexandra.
In the North Island, the Desert Road is closed between Rangipo and Waiouru.

Will this be the same for Saturday closure of the desert road? Whats the best road to take tomorrow to come north to avoid weather woes

At this stage we don’t anticipate snow tomorrow, with rain on the way. Early afternoon is usually a safe bet – warmest time of the day.
