A window of mainly clear skies is moving up through central New Zealand this evening while clouds remain at either end.

Auckland has been covered in cloud today but with light winds conditions were mild.  Cloud is slowly clearing to the north with skies expected to clear over Auckland this evening.  Temperatures are likely to drop to around 4 or 5 across the city.

Cloudy skies are also clearing Bay of Plenty but will remain in Hawkes Bay and East Cape tonight.

From about Waikato to Kaikoura skies will remain mostly clear tonight allowing temperatures to drop to freezing.  It will be borderline for frosts in the Manawatu region with lows dropping to around freezing but a light wind overnight may just keep the frosts at bay.

Weak frontal cloud is moving into Canterbury this evening and will keep conditions just warm enough to stop frosts.

Meanwhile a few showers and cloudy periods will remain across Southland and Otago but clear skies means frosts are likely along the West Coast.
