Showers on and off during Friday – rain moving in for the north

> From the WeatherWatch archives

On Friday we have a northwesterly airflow sitting over New Zealand, before a front makes its way over the lower South Island in the morning, then the upper South Island in the afternoon.

This front brings rain for the west, and generally just a few showers out east.

In the North Island, skies become mostly cloudy in the morning in the west, while the odd shower may affect places from Taranaki northwards during the day.
Out in the east, it’s shaping up mostly sunny, with high cloud thickening in the afternoon and warm conditions.

A low in the Tasman Sea moves towards the North Island during the day, and a frontal band from this low moves over Northland overnight – bringing heavy rain.
There will be some pre frontal activiy bringing showers to Northland and perhaps northern parts of Auckland from afternoon, while Auckland itself is likely to see showers in the evening.
