> From the WeatherWatch archives

UPDATED – 5:30pm

Hot, humid, conditions will today see an increased risk of thunderstorms over the North Island reports WeatherWatch.co.nz with MetService today increasing the risk of thunderstorms to include Severe thunderstorms.  A new map has been provided (see below).

Humidity levels are extreme in Auckland with 95% humidity and 23 degrees creating a ‘feels like’ temperature of 29.

WeatherWatch.co.nz forecasters believe thunder activity is largely affecting the lower North Island.

Keep an eye on the Lightning Tracker this evening to monitor any developments.  For more details, see the map below outlining the areas most at risk.

WeatherWatch.co.nz says that some downpours may be heavy enough to cause surface and flash flooding.

People are advised to stay indoors during severe thunderstorms.

In Kawerau there haven’t been any thunderstorms yet, but it’s been raining all day. We have out Christmas in the Park happening right now to the loud music coming from that might cover up any thunder!
