Saturday’s national forecast – Unstable eastern SI

A westerly airflow lies over the North Island today with mainly settled weather, the odd shower in the west, nice sunny weather in the east. For the South Island showers affect the West Coast, eastern regions see showers too possibly heavy with thunderstorms. Nelson and Marlborough should see good weather.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A mix of sun and cloud, a few showers possible mainly for Waikato then clearing away during the afternoon as northwesterlies tend more to the west.
Highs: 19 – 21

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
A mix of sun and cloud with a few showers, clearing up later in the afternoon. Northwesterlies may tend a little more westerly after midday.
Highs: 16 – 19

Eastern North Island

Sunny with northerly winds, perhaps tending northeast in the afternoon for coastal Hawkes Bay and Gisborne. High cloud later in the day.
Highs: 21 – 25

Wellington

A few spits or showers, more so in the morning with cloudier skies but a few could continue in the north after midday, clearing by evening. Sunny spells increase in the afternoon. Breezy north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 17 – 18

Marlborough & Nelson

Sunny, any early showers clear the Sounds. Gentle north to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 19 – 23

Canterbury

Any early showers clear then mostly sunny, a few isolated showers spring up in the afternoon. South of Banks Peninsula showers could be heavy with thunder, clearing evening. Northerly winds, tending east to northeast near the coast.
Highs: 18 – 20

West Coast

Cloudy spells and occasional showers, some heavy. Northerly winds, tending more northwest in the afternoon.
Highs: 14 – 18

Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy, there may be a shower. Showers becoming more widespread in the afternoon as southerlies develop, some may be heavy with thunder for Otago.
Highs: 13 – 19
