A front lies over the South Island today bringing rain, heavy in the west and possibly parts of Canterbury. The North Island is mainly dry with a ridge of high pressure.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Morning cloud clears then mostly sunny, some high cloud. Light winds then afternoon sea breezes.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Partly cloudy skies, chance of a shower otherwise mainly dry. West to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-22
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, westerly quarter winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 23-26
Wellington
Mostly cloudy, the odd spit possible mainly in the north. Northerly quarter winds may change southerly for a time.
Highs: 18-21
Marlborough & Nelson
Some morning sun possible then becoming mostly cloudy by midday, overnight showers. Light winds.
Highs: 20-21
Canterbury
Rain, spreading into North Canterbury around midday. Rain may become heavy in the afternoon for South and Mid Canterbury. Easterly winds.

West Coast
Rain, becoming heavy in the afternoon. Rain clears up for Fiordland. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 16-18
Southland & Otago
Morning showers clear Southland, sunny spells start to break through from afternoon. Otago has some rain, not clearing till later in the day although drizzle continues about the coast overnight. Light southerlies tend easterly around midday.
