A front pushes in from the west today bringing rain to western regions then easing to showers in behind once the front clears. Some instability is possible especially for Auckland and Northland this afternoon / evening. The eastern South Island has afternoon sun and warm temperatures.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Conditions could be dry at first but during the morning rain spreads in from the west as a front moves in, winds from the north. Late afternoon or evening rain eases to showers. Auckland and Northland could see thunderstorms in the afternoon. Northerly winds tend northwest later in the day. Eastern Northland through to Great Barrier Island and Coromandel may see heavy falls overnight.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Rain spreads to most areas during the morning starting in the west, easing to showers in the afternoon as northerlies tend northwest. Winds strong for coastal areas but gradually easing.
Highs: 15-21
Eastern North Island
High cloud, scattered rain for Wairarapa spreads further north around midday, clearing in the evening. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-23
Wellington
Morning rain eases to spits and showers after midday, gusty northerly winds, strong to gale through Cook Strait.
Highs: 18-19
Marlborough & Nelson
Morning rain, heavy about Nelson and especially Tasman, easing to showers in the afternoon and eventually clearing with sun breaking through. Rain clears in the afternoon to sun for eastern Marlborough as northerlies tend northwest.

Canterbury
Morning spits of rain then breaking to sun in the afternoon as northeasterlies tend north to northwest.
Highs: 21-24
West Coast
Morning rain (possibly heavy especially for Buller) eases to showers with northeasterlies changing northwest around midday, from late afternoon or evening showers may be heavy at times as winds tend westerly.
Highs: 17-20
Southland & Otago
Morning scattered rain then sun breaks through in the afternoon with temperatures warming up as northeasterlies tend to the north to northwest. Winds may stay northeast for coastal Otago after midday but will ease.
