A broad area of low pressure lies over New Zealand today, winds are mostly light. Showers for some regions this afternoon may become heavy with thunderstorms then easing later on.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Partly cloudy with a few isolated showers, mainly afternoon. Showers may become heavy in the afternoon for southern Waikato then easing later on. Northwesterly winds.
Highs: 21-23
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Cloudy areas with showers, showers more frequent in the afternoon, some may heavy with thunder then easing at night. North to northwesterly winds.
Highs: 20-24
Eastern North Island
Morning scattered rain clears then sunny spells increase, isolated showers develop in the afternoon about the ranges. Showers may become heavy with thunderstorms especially about Wairarapa then easing at night.
Highs: 16-18
Wellington
Partly cloudy with north to northwesterly winds picking up in the afternoon. Chance of an isolated shower, mainly from afternoon inland.
Highs: 20-23
Marlborough & Nelson
Early rain eases to a few isolated showers, showers more frequent in the afternoon possibly heavy with a rumble of thunder, easing at night. Light winds tend onshore in the afternoon.
Highs: 19-23
Canterbury
A few morning spits then clearing to sunny spells, isolated showers develop in the afternoon, some may be heavy with thunderstorms (more so for North Canterbury) then easing at night. Light winds tend south to southwest after midday.
Highs: 19-22
West Coast
Partly cloudy, a few isolated showers, mainly afternoon just inland about the ranges, clearing later. North of about Greymouth skies are cloudier with showers. Light west to southwesterly winds.
Highs: 18-20
Southland & Otago
Partly cloudy, isolated showers may spring up in the afternoon for Otago. Light winds at first, northeasterlies for coastal Otago then west to southwesterly winds spread northwards around midday.
Highs: 16-20
