An anticyclone is centred east of Wairarapa today with a ridge extending over the North Island bringing mostly sunny weather. There could be a morning shower in the east however about Coromandel and just north of Auckland, also Gisborne could see a few morning showers. Northerlies build over the South Island ahead of a front, generally dry weather can be expected out east with cloudy showery weather developing in the west.

Northland, Auckland, Waikato, CNI & BOP
A mix of sunny weather and a few cloudy spells at times. Cloud will be a bit more abundant in the morning about the likes of western BOP, the Coromandel and eastern Northland where there could be a clearing morning shower. Expect light easterlies, winds tend more northerly about the BOP in the afternoon.

East of the North Island
Mostly sunny skies with northeasterly breezes, some cloud mainly morning and night. About Gisborne expect sunny and cloudy spells, risk of a light morning shower then again overnight.

Western North Island
Mostly sunny skies with a few clouds at times, light winds and afternoon sea breezes about coastal areas.
Highs: 21-22

Wellington
Sunny with breezy northerlies, perhaps brisk at times during the afternoon.

Nelson
Sunny with northerly breezes, some late evening cloud.
Highs: 21-22

Canterbury & Marlborough
Mostly sunny skies with northeasterlies about the coast in Canterbury, northerlies for Marlborough. Some high cloud develops during the afternoon about Canterbury.
Highs: 22-24

West Coast
Cloudy about Fiordland with some rain, sunny breaks further north to start the day however becoming cloudy in the afternoon with scattered rain by evening. Northeasterly breezes.
Highs: 18-19

Southland & Otago
High cloud thickening during the day, some scattered rain develops during the afternoon about Southland and inland Otago. Northerly breezes.
