Upper North Island

Northerly breezes today with mostly cloudy skies, the odd drizzle patch turning to rain in the west around midday. A southwest change moves through late afternoon with rain easing to showers, showers clear in the evening. Showers about Bay Of Plenty clear later overnight. About Gisborne expect sunny areas and some cloud with northerlies, later in the evening southwesterlies develop with showers.
HIGHS: 17-18 for most areas.

Lower North Island

Northerly breezes today with mostly cloudy skies, northerlies will be strong about Wellington at first early in the morning. The odd drizzle patch turning to rain in the west around midday. A southwest change moves through late afternoon with rain easing to showers, showers clear in the evening for most. Sunny areas and some cloud with northerly breezes about Hawkes Bay and Wairarapa, a southwest change in the afternoon brings showers which clear at night.
HIGHS: Mid teen temperatures today, high teens on the east coast before the southwest change.

Upper South Island

Rain on the western ranges with cool southwesterlies, rain eases to showers around midday then clearing late afternoon. Showers about Nelson and Marlborough turn to rain in the morning as a south to southwest change develops, showers clear late afternoon in Nelson then in the evening about Marlborough. Some brief snow to 600m for a time in Marlborough in the evening before showers clear. Cold in Canterbury with southwesterly winds, rain in the morning eases to showers by midday then clears in the evening. Showers may continue in inland areas clearing at night. Snow in Canterbury to 500m.
HIGHS: Mid teen temperatures about Nelson and Marlborough however becoming cooler after midday, low double figure high’s about Canterbury and on the West Coast.

Lower South Island

Any morning showers clear on the western ranges with sunny areas developing, cool southwesterlies remain for most of the day easing at night. Cloudy areas and showers about Southland and Otago with cold southwesterlies, dry breaks also. Showers and snow flurries to 400m clear in the evening, cold at night especially inland with frosts possible.
HIGHS: High single figure temperatures today perhaps just getting into double figures.
