An east to northeasterly airflow lies over New Zealand today with a front sweeping down over the upper North Island during the day. This front connects into a low out in the Tasman Sea.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Cloudy with a few showers or drizzle patches. Rain about Northland with heavy falls possible, spreading into Auckland in the evening then further south overnight. Breezy east to northeasterly winds, perhaps strong at times in more coastal areas exposed to the east.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and thickening high cloud, some rain develops about Taranaki in the evening then spreading southwards overnight. Easterly winds.
Highs: 10-16
Eastern North Island
Some morning sun possible otherwise mostly cloudy, the odd light shower about East Cape / Gisborne then spreading elsewhere in the evening. Overnight rain.

Wellington
Mostly sunny with high cloud increasing from afternoon, southeasterly winds.

Marlborough & Nelson
Some morning sun possible then expect increasing cloud, east to southeasterly winds.

Canterbury
Cloudy areas with light winds tending east to northeast in the afternoon. Chance of a morning drizzle patch.

West Coast
Mostly sunny with some high cloud, east to southeasterly winds.

Mostly sunny with some high cloud, coastal Otago has cloudier skies. Northeasterly winds.
