A northerly airflow increases over New Zealand today with a front pushing over the lower South Island from afternoon, reaching the lower North Island overnight.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
A chance of morning fog then mostly sunny with some increasing high cloud, light northerly winds.
Highs: 18-20
Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Sunny areas and increasing cloud, chance of a light shower from afternoon about Taranaki and Kapiti. Rain moves through overnight as northwesterly winds change southwest, heavy falls possible about Taranaki.
Highs: 16-18
Eastern North Island
Mostly sunny with some developing high cloud, a few spots of rain move into the Wairarapa overnight. North to northeasterly winds.
Highs: 17-20
Wellington
Mostly cloudy with increasing north to northwesterly winds, strong in the evening at which point some rain moves in then clearing overnight.

Marlborough & Nelson
Sunny areas and increasing high cloud for Marlborough, a few spots of rain move through later in the evening / around midnight then clear. Nelson sees cloud thicken and lower in the afternoon then expect some evening rain which clears around midnight. Gusty north to northwesterly winds develop in the afternoon.

Canterbury
High cloud, may be a spot of evening rain. Northerly winds tend southwest near the coast overnight.

West Coast
Mostly cloudy with the odd light shower, rain moves into South Westland during the afternoon then pushing northwards in the evening. Rain eases or may even clear overnight as gusty northeasterly winds change southwest.
Highs: 14-16
Southland & Otago
High cloud with north to northeasterly winds, late afternoon or evening some rain moves through as winds tilt to the northwest. Skies becoming clear overnight.
