A low and front combination move over the North Island today while cold southwesterlies lie over the South Island. Most of the country is in for unsettled weather however the West Coast of the South Island is looking fairly sunny.
Northland, Auckland, Waikato & Bay Of Plenty
Showers, heavy at times into the afternoon and evening with thunderstorms and a risk of hail. Strong northwesterly winds turn gale southwest later.

Western North Island (including Central North Island)
Any early rain clears, perhaps some brief sun for a time then rain moving in again around midday as gusty northwesterly winds change southerly. Taranaki will likely have continuous rain, rain clears for most later in the evening. Rain may be heavy with thunderstorms and a risk of hail.

Eastern North Island
Any early rain clears then becoming mostly sunny, in the afternoon winds change gusty southwest however bringing rain. A chance of heavy falls late afternoon and evening.
Early rain easing to showers, gusty northwesterly winds change strong southerly by midday.
High: 14
Marlborough & Nelson
A few early morning showers clear, remaining fairly cloudy with southwesterly winds. Overnight a few showers may move in, more so about Marlborough.
Morning rain eases to the odd shower, drying out for a time in the afternoon and evening then showers pick up again at night. Breezy Sou’West winds becoming strong later in the day.
Mainly sunny weather with southeasterly winds tending southwest around midday, there may be a few early showers first thing in the morning any of which clear.

Southland & Otago
Sunny areas in the morning then expect cloud to increase from midday with a few showers moving in. Southwesterly winds freshen.
