A low pressure system affects the North Island today bring showers, mainly to northern and eastern regions. Showers in the north may be heavy with thunderstorms this afternoon. For the South Island expect a south to southeasterly airflow, cloudy areas n the east with sunny spells in the west.
Auckland & Northland
Sunny spells, chance of an isolated shower. In the afternoon isolated showers become more widespread with the chance of of heavy falls and thunderstorms. Showers and and thunderstorms clear away in the evening as light winds tend south to southeast.

Bay Of Plenty
Occasional showers with easterly winds, showers clear in the evening as
winds tend more southeast.
A few early showers clear then expect sunny spells with easterly winds.
Showers develop again in the afternoon possibly heavy with thunderstorms before
clearing away in the evening. Heavy showers and thunderstorms may lie more about
northern and western parts of the region.

Central North Island
Cloudy spells with the odd isolated shower, showers may be a little more
persistent in the afternoon then clearing away in the evening.
Southeasterlies.

Eastern North Island
Some rain with southeasterly winds, areas of rain a little more persistent
about northern Hawkes Bay / Gisborne and patchier further south.
A few early morning showers clear then becoming mostly sunny in the
afternoon, brisk southeasterlies.

Western North Island
Sunny with some cloud about, chance of a spit or two spreading from the
west otherwise dry. Breezy southeasterlies.
Mostly cloudy with the occasional shower, dry spells too. Fresh southerly
winds.
Some morning cloud clears to a mostly sunny day, southeasterlies ease from
afternoon.
A few early showers clear, especially about southern Marlborough then sunny
spells develop towards midday. Breezy southerly winds.
A few morning drizzle patches, mainly Banks Peninsula northwards clear then
cloudy areas break to sunny spells around midday. Around midnight a few further
showers may affect Banks Peninsula and perhaps Christchurch northwards along the
coast again otherwise mainly dry conditions prevail. Southerly winds.
Any early cloud clears to sunny weather, southerly winds.

Coastal Otago
Any early cloud clears then expect mostly sunny weather with light winds,
late afternoon winds tend southwest with a few clouds starting to move in
again.

Central Otago
Any morning cloud breaks to sunny weather, light winds.
Periods of cloud and a few sunny spells, light west to southwest winds.
Chance of a brief spit or two late afternoon / evening otherwise dry.
Highs: 11-12
