A storm that has walloped Victoria and Tasmania is now heading towards New Zealand.
The low brought winds of 100km/h to parts of Victoria and dumped snow to low levels over Tasmania. The low, the second large one in a week in our part of the world, will also impact New Zealand starting tomorrow with rain in the west and continuing through Wednesday and Thursday with winds, showers and thunderstorms.
WeatherWatch.co.nz predicts thunderstorms will affect western areas from the West Coast to Taranaki later on Tuesday.
The low is a large one and has several fronts spiralling from it – so those in the north and west can expect more rain.
However the centre of the low will be further south than the weekend’s system that brought flooding and evacuations to eastern Bay of Plenty. Heavy rain isn’t likely to set in across these same regions but isolated heavy downpours are predicted off and on for the next few days.
The large low will also bring in a colder southerly to the lower South Island on Wednesday possibly bringing snow to lower levels – although it’s unclear just how heavy or how low it will be at this stage.

Hi Brendan,
Thanks for the data, that’s great!
Rain events for your area shouldn’t be too extreme this week – but this weekend and mid next week could see another couple of big rain bands moving in. Keep up to date with us.
