Reports continue to come in of hail storms hitting Wellington and Christchurch with one report of snow flakes in Wellington.
WeatherWatch.co.nz Wellington reporter Dave Smart says the weather is “horrific and dismal” in the capital with surface flooding, hail storms and a temperature of just 4 degrees in Lower Hutt.
WeatherWatch.co.nz reader “Chris B” posted he had news from his wife saying that snow briefly came down in Karori (Wellington). “Not full blown snow but there is snow coming among the showers”
Meanwhile it’s a similar story in Kaikoura where it’s just 4 degrees with a gale southerly and Chirstchurch has hail and snow on Banks Peninsula with 5 in the Garden City.
We’re keen to hear from anyone in the Wellington region – and anywhere across the country for that matter – with an update on weather conditions where you are, simply post a comment below.

Lots of hail in western suburbs, hail piled up in drifts like snow outside the Northland shops earlier.

In Masterton it’s 5.4 deg with very cold showers coming through, and snow on the foothills. Brrrr!

There was definitely lots of sleet and hail showers from at least 8am through to midday in Christchurch. A peek at the Port Hills shows a little of the white stuff at the tops. Right now the sun is out beaming much needed heat melting away all the evidence of the sleet and hail.
