Rare earthquake jolts Auckland – Read comments

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A small but moderately felt earthquake has jolted Auckland tonight.

According to GeoNet the earthquake was only 2.9 on the Richter Scale but was just 9kms deep, centred 10kms east of Auckland.

The earthquake was widely felt across highrise buildings in the CBD and across other central suburbs.

While the earthquake was tiny compared to the aftershocks in Christchurch, it’s the rareness of earthquakes in Auckland that will make it a headline story.
