Rare afternoon fog rolls into Auckland (+Photos)

> From the WeatherWatch archives

WeatherWatch.co.nz has received several reports of fog returning to the city and surrounding suburbs this afternoon, following a very foggy morning across the city.

Earlier today domestic flights at Auckland Airport were disrupted as the thick fog set in.

The fog lifted in most places around late morning but in the past hour we’ve received a number of reports of fog coming back in.

“On the West Coast of Auckland, the fog lifted, the sun came out, now the fog is creeping back in…it’s quite strange” Jennifer Shalfoon told us via our Facebook page.

Laurence Wilson of Hillsborough said “Just watched the Manukau [Harbour] disappear. Not so much creeping as sweeping up the harbour”.

“It was foggy in Whangaparaoa until about half an hour ago and had cleared with blue sky and sunshine now the fog is creeping back in again, so strange, never seen anything like it” Nikki Barnes told us.

In September 2009 a similar wall of fog rolled into Auckland from the east during the afternoon.
