A large anticyclone in the Tasman Sea starts to push into New Zealand today, a fresh cool southerly quarter airflow will ease later in the day.

For the North Island we see the chance of a shower or two this morning for western regions then it is looking mainly dry for the rest of the day. Along the east coast expect occasional showers and dry periods. Gisborne will likely see rain this morning then easing this afternoon. Wellington sees a shower or two during the day but many long dry periods also.

In the South Island coastal Otago sees a few early showers clear then mainly dry for the lower south. Showers clear most of Canterbury early afternoon then becoming dry. Coastal southern Marlborough and parts of coastal North Canterbury may see a shower or two hang on till evening then clearing. Parts of Tasman may see an isolated shower or two hang about for much of the day also. Looking mainly dry along the West Coast.
