RainWatch – Wednesday 17th January 2018

A front in the Tasman Sea moves onto the West Coast of the South Island this morning, pushing onto the west of the North Island this evening. This front will bring rain to western regions, possibly heavy. Winds breezy from the northeast over New Zealand tdoay.

For the upper North Island expect the odd light shower or drizzle patch at times today, rain moves onto Northland this evening then to some western regions overnight. For the lower North Island conditions are mainly dry, there may be a spit of rain from afternoon about Wellington and Taranaki. This evening rain moves in to western regions, possibly heavy later on / overnight for a time.

Most regions in the South Island should see rain or showers today. Rain for the West Coast the South Island may be heavy then easing from afternoon. Heavy falls about Tasman, Nelson and Marlborough developing this morning then easing later in the day. Canterbury is mainly dry however North Canterbury may see a few spots of rain especially this afternoon.

Rain for South Westland eases this afternoon, a few spots of rain elsewhere then isolated showers late afternoon / evening about Southland and Otago.
