RainWatch – Tuesday 09th January 2018

> From the WeatherWatch archives

Anticyclonic conditions cover most of New Zealand today, a weak area of high pressure sits off the east coast of the South Island.

The North Island is mainly dry today, from afternoon there is the chance of a light shower about Wellington and Kapiti, later in the evening there is a greater chance of showers about Taranaki through to Wellington. A few showers spill into the Wairarapa overnight.

A weak frontal feature brings showers to North Westland, clearing late afternoon or evening. Showers pass over Nelson for a time late afternoon / evening. Marlborough, especially in the south and about North Canterbury expect a few showers late afternoon / evening then clearing away. Other parts of Canterbury may see a shower later in the day but the risk is lower, a mainly dry day overall.

Finally moving further southwards, there may be a light shower or two about South Westland during the day. Fairly dry elsewhere although about inland Southland and Otago there may be an isolated shower late afternoon / evening.
