An anticyclone lies over the South Island today while fresh southerlies cover the North Island.

For western parts of the North Island expect mainly dry conditions today, there may be a shower this morning for some parts south of Taranaki. A few morning showers clear Wellington then mainly dry. Along the east coast expect showers for most of today, especially about the coastal fringes while further inland conditions may be a bit drier.

For the South Island conditions are mainly dry today although there may be a shower about the coastal fringe parts of North Canterbury and southern Marlborough this morning.
