A front lies over the upper South Island today connected into a low pressure system that lies just west of the South Island. High pressure affects the upper North Island and lower South Island.
For the North Island it’s another mainly dry day with just a few exceptions. Taranaki southwards may catch a shower or two during the day, it’s looking fairly dry overall however. Kapiti and Wellington see the odd light shower or drizzle patch throughout the day, southern Wairarapa may also catch a shower at times during the day.
The South Island is a different story, most regions will see rain or showers with rain about Canterbury possibly being heavy at times. Heavy rain is more likely about the main divide and for the West Coast.
Otago is fairly dry, there may be a light shower or two at times, this becomes more likely there further north into Otago you go. Northern parts of Fiordland and moving into South Westland sees a chance of showers and then rain the further north you go.
