RainWatch – Rain for most on Thursday

> From the WeatherWatch archives

A low pressure system brings rain to all of the North Island tomorrow, yes… even the far north and Auckland which will be of great relief. The Bay Of Plenty, Central North Island and Wellington regions catch the most rain in the 24 hour period from 6am tomorrow through till 6am Friday with heavy falls likely in these areas.

For the South Island expect a southerly airflow with rain about Nelson / Tasman and Canterbury northwards in the east. The Kaikoura coast sees some decent rain and this is more likely overnight into Friday. The West Coast stays largely dry south of Greymouth, Southland and Otago just see the odd shower especially morning.

A front starts to break away from an evolving low pressure centre west of the North Island on Friday, this brings heavy falls in the northeast. The low centre itself could bring a few isolated heavy falls which rotate onto Northland overnight. The South Island sees easing conditions Canterbury northwards, mainly dry elsewhere.
