A ridge of high pressure brings mainly dry weather to the South Island on Saturday, it won’t be cloud free though with eastern regions experiencing cloudy periods in spots. There may be a light shower or two also Banks Peninsula northwards. For the North Island expect a southeasterly airflow with areas of rain or showers in parts exposed to the northeast, East Cape gets some heavy rain.
The overall picture doesn’t change much for Sunday, expect more persistent areas of rain for the North Island’s east coast though. Frosty mornings are likely for the interior of the far south this weekend (Central Otago etc).
