A few very light showers are being reported about the central North Island today.  Little more than that is expected for the NI for the rest of today.  A few rogue showers may pop off at times, mainly about the western NI.

The main focus for today will be the South Island’s western sections.  Heavy showers and a few thunderstorms are expected for later today and this evening.  The threat will begin over Fiordland this afternoon and then move into Westland by early this evening.

The system will have lost a bit of its punch by the time it reaches Nelson late tonight.  Widespread showers are expected and few heavy falls are possible.  Even some thunder is still possible.  But the threat will diminish a little.

Those showers should affect the western North Island during the morning on Saturday.

Also on Saturday, the western South Island looks to be doing a repeat of today.  Widespread showers are expected with a few heavy falls possible about Westland during the afternoon.
