Rain Watch – Monday 25th December 2017

> From the WeatherWatch archives

For most of the North Island conditions are looking fairly dry today, an isolated shower or two may pop up late afternoon / evening with western Northland being a slightly more likely potential candidate for this. The lower North Island about the hills and ranges of Manawatu, also Wairarapa and Hawkes Bay sees isolated showers developing this afternoon and some could turn heavy with thunderstorms. These showers drift eastwards a tad then ease later this evening.

For the South Island a shower or two is possible about the Marlborough Sounds otherwise looking mainly dry, some rain moves in around dawn on Tuesday for Nelson and Marlborough. Canterbury sees a southerly change move in this evening which brings showers then as this change reaches parts of North Canterbury it may turn to rain for a time.

Southland and Otago sees some rain move in this morning with a southwest change then easing late afternoon / evening to the odd shower. The West Coast of the South Island sees a band of heavy rain gradually move northwards during the day, starting out this morning in Fiordland then reaching Buller overnight.
